If you live or are frequently in the Caldwell area, you've probably noticed the Giant 36,000 square-foot building going in on the corner of S 10th Ave and Arthur St. You've probably also noticed that this is a brand new, first run, movie theater by The Reel Theatre!
"What does 'First run' mean?", you may ask. Well, this means that the theater, unlike other "Reel Theatres" in the area, will run brand new movies as soon as they are released. Because this is a new style of theater for the company, they are considering naming the theater something other than "The Reel Theatre" so people will not assume that the theater is a "Dollar theater." They want to be recognized as one of the top quality theaters in the Valley!

How will this theater be different from other "Reel Theatres?" Well, aside from the aspect of being a first run theater with the latest movies, the theater will have 11 screens with top of the line technology. The main screen will be a giant, 30-plus-foot tall screen with 200 seats! Of those 200 seats, 50 will be luxury rockers and 50 will be full recliners. This auditorium will also feature state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos surround sound. The other auditoriums will feature 36 to 110 seats with some luxury rockers and full reclines as well, but will not feature Dolby Atmos sound. The theater is also constructed from geoform blocks because of its superb acoustic qualities.
The theater will feature reserved seating which can be purchased online, specifically from "The Reel Theatre" website.
As for parking, downtown Caldwell does not currently support parking for the amount of people that are expected to visit the newly revitalized area. They will be leasing property from Union Pacific along the railroad from 9th Ave all the way to 12th Ave to create additional parking. This will add around 200 additional parking spaces. They will build a wall between the parking area and the railroad tracks to prevent anyone from wandering onto the tracks.
There have also been proposed ideas for additional parking where the old inn once was, kitty corner from the theater. Nothing has been confirmed for that project yet.
In front of the theater, they will have six available spaces for both retail and restaurants. Some of these businesses may take up more than one space. They have not yet released names of the businesses that will be taking up these spaces.
The theater is expected to open early May, 2018 and the retail spaces will soon follow in mid to late summer of 2018!
The City of Caldwell has put a lot of time, money, and effort into revitalizing the downtown area. This new theater is a huge piece of that puzzle and, combined with the new Indian Creek Plaza and several other businesses, should give the area a huge economic boost!
